Mike and I are getting ready for our Rose Garden Open House this weekend. Everything was moving along smoothly, but as is usually the case, Mother Nature interfered. Around 2 am Thursday morning, a strong thunderstorm hit Providence and East Providence with high winds, torrential rain, and hail the size of ping-pong balls.
The next morning we discovered that a large tree limb had crashed onto and over the fence at the far end of our rear garden. The limb was resting across one of our benches full of potted roses and stretched across to rest at the end of our Brownell collection.
The good news is that the Brownell roses were not damaged, except for ‘Golden Arctic’ which lost a cane. The bad news is that most of the potted roses on the bench were crushed. One of the survivors, we hope, will be ‘All a Twitter’, a luminous, outrageous orange, new introduction from Weeks Roses. It had just started to bloom a few days ago. Mike spent most of yesterday afternoon cleaning up the damage, threw out the potted plants that were smashed, but will try to save ‘All a Twitter’.
Today we’ll set up for our Rose Garden Open House – everyone is invited. For more information, go to our web site http://www.rosesolutions.net
